02:01 pm - Job update
Locally i've gotten jack as far as response.

However I've been applying for jobs at SAIC.

I've been applying everywhere on their site.

Maryland, florida, california, Ohio, Pa, WV, AZ.

Why cause they are military developer among other things.

R&D stuff.

well I got an email from one of the probably 60 or so positions.

Asking for more info. Typical 1st interview questions.

Good parts:
Actual research job. meaning I would actually get to develop stuff.
Top Secret Clearance. Outside of the "Coolness" of having a TS clearance. It is supposedly very good for getting more jobs.

Bad parts:
Tuscon, Az.

So my question as some have done similar things.

Is it worth moving your entire life 1/2 way cross the country for a job, to a place where the only person you even know and never met is 1 1/2 hours away?
Current Mood: nervousnervous

I wouldn't mind even moving down to WV or PA cause for alot of the stuff I do I could keep in contact with RL friends like my campouts and foam fighting.

Yeah they asked for salary requirements.

I never know how to answer that question.

I look online at the studies.

Entry programmer. Program Analyst. The average is $40K/yr. (Cost of living in akron and Tuscon are scarily almost identical)

But I got to jobs and I ask for $30 and nothing. Hell guy at the one interview writes down $26K/yr after i say 30k.

So how much is this worth to me. I can't just say give me $60K. Cause they are spending a $5K minimum hit on getting me the security clearance. I was going to put $40K down in the requirements.

The upside after a year or two. I could try bailing back to Ohio, as SAIC is everywhere.

And melcocha is there, though you might not have much in common but SCA/SCA-like things.

Hey, there's RPGs, too.

Okay, we've not much in common... :) But yeah. Godai should go for it. For the opportunity to do almost exactly what he wants, I think a huge move is worth it. Even to Tucson.
