|10:44 am - Let's make a deal.....|
Part of me likes doing this part of me hates it.
Now only a few of you know me in rl.
In my years growing up money has never really been a problem.
Parents aren't wealthy but our family is upper middle class.
And both parents are working now and since i'm not in college are raking in the money.
well sorta but that isn't the point this is about me.
I got my first evil card around 5-6 years ago.
A discovercard where if i spent 150 in the first month i got back 75.
Theese are what kill me. buy X amount get Y back. And i screw up the get Y back part often.
The other problem is I tried to follow the "neither a borrower nor a lender be" at least when dealing with people.
While at times got me labled a jew. (Not in the way of purely derogatory remark)
However this isn't true anymore and parts of it tick me off.
I have one friend who owes me $160 and another who owes me $106.
the 160 from august and the 116 from september.
I have no clue as to when i'm getting any of this money back.
Over the past 6 years i've been using the evil card in bad ways.
we go somewhere for a hotel. i pay with the card get the cash from friends sharing the room but then don't put the cash towards the card. Plus i've had alot of times where i have lost track of the card and gotten charged fees.
So time passes i pick up a visa. then another to get a free deal.
then my bank changes over to a debit card so it leaves me where i am today.
a 12000 discover card
a 12000 visa
a 2000 visa
and a visa debit card and a mastercard debit card
now none of theese are maxed but it still leaves me with about 11000 in debit.
yep that much.
So that brings me today. I start looking at a 2500 laptop and my mom starts talking to me about money.
I skirt around the topic and eventually tell her how much i have in debit and she proposes a deal.
She pays off my credit card debt. Which is a good thing cause it means no more late fees
I don't get a laptop. Bad thing.
She only charges 4% intrest( her bank account intrest so she doesn't lose money) A good thing compared to the card rates.
But its another dependancy on the parents and makes me more prone to lecturing. A bad thing.
But it means i should be able to pay my debits quicker and start saving for the inevitable expenses.
(i.e. new car, laptop, trips, and my eventual moving)
sigh so souchiro the laptop will have to wait. Maybe i'll pass time by getting my linux box working again. heh i could call him yotsuya since he's linux and no one really knows what linux does. (joke of course)
Current Mood: poor
And just think, when it is time to buy the laptop, there will be an even NEWER version out...
Hope it goes well, friend.
yea it's a never ending cycle.
hence my problem. I hacked up my cards. Most of my debt was tuition and medical tho -that really maxes out cards when you have no insurance and it was getting insane with the fees and finance charges -ESPECIALLY sears (where I'd done tons of car stuff on my old car [not the sleek subarus of course] and home improvements on the House of Horrors which was an obvious mistake but I was trying to help) so I just went thru genus and instead of 15 or so years barely making the min payments, they renegotiate my interest rate and it's all paid off in about 3 years. It didn't wreak havoc on my credit rating either. I got the car and apartment AFTER I got into Genus. What was wreaking havoc was my friggin student loan -jerks. But I just paid that off and they can bite me the grubbers.
just a thought to avoid the parental dependence. and after a year, I've gotten adjusted to not having a credit card but it was traumatic at first. Now that I'm gonna be traveling tho I wanna see if I can get a secured one thru the credit union for hotels and whatnot. I hvae the visa debit cards, but there's limits on those. :( esp with the credit union rationing my own $.
oh i love the debit cards...you know certain debit cards you can use only certain times a day...and for usually a 700 dollar limit...
the credit union is $200.
I THINK my main one is $1000.
I don't care for the warranties tho, I have the cash I just don't have the desire to trek.
now I gotta buy toys for it.
I feel you...toys are the best part...
actually it's pretty nice even tho it's an HP. Not my favourite brand but all I really need is basics for traveling etc.
I love those sony vaio...they are so teeny tiny...^^;;
yea but the meat and potatos were very thin in comparison.
yea the HP weighs a ton but it's good for the elimination of granny flab
Hp aint bad...they build pretty reliable computers...
I hope so.
curious...how much of these extended warranties are scams?
it really depends on the item your buying and what the extended warranty offers...but for labtops it isnt always a bad deal, if something goes wrong they should be able to repair it with no charge to you...
ok that's two YES votes opposed to my skepticism.
and that's from somewhat reliable people. ok I proly should do that then.
cuz if something happens I'd be rather pissed
